Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an ultrasound and a sonogram?

Not a thing! They are the same exam and the term is used interchangeable.

I was late for my appointment today and was told I needed to reschedule, why?

Because patients are asked to come with a full bladder and because the length of an exam is long there is little flexibility in a schedule. If possible we would have seen you but, if the next patient was scheduled just a few minutes later, then it would mean that patient would have to wait and as you know a full bladder is uncomfortable at best.

Why do I need to drink fluids before my ultrasound?

For Gynecological ultrasound: the bladder acts as a “window” through the overlying bowel allowing a better view of the uterus and ovaries.

For Obstetrical ultrasound: if a baby's head or bottom is low in the pelvis or if your placenta is low lying, a full bladder helps to push everything up from the lower pelvis so the technologist can get a better view.
